In June 2007, Seal Press published Hijas Americanas:  Beauty, Body Image, and Growing Up Latina. Showcasing self-actualization, body image, and beauty perception among Latina women in a US very different from their families' native cultures, Hijas Americanas provides a provocative account of the struggles and triumphs of Latinas as we reconcile two realities: that beauty, identity, and womanhood within our homes are largely defined by our ethnic culture and parents’ upbringing, while beauty, identity, and womanhood outside our homes are defined by American culture- often two very different standards. Hundreds of Latinas detail how growing up American and Latina affects who one becomes and how she gets there. But this book is also about the inside job all of us do on ourselves and the outside job the world is willing to do on us, too, if we aren’t vigilant. It’s about how we all feel ‘the other’ in some way. It’s about how beauty has so much more depth and breadth to it than we acknowledge.

Rosie is now currently at work on her second book which will be published by Seal Press in Fall 2010.
